Who is Ravi Ghai:
Ravi Ghai is a well-known figure in Mumbai’s business and
hospitality industry. He leads the Graviss Group, a successful conglomerate
operating in both food and hospitality. Under his leadership, the group has
built famous brands such as The Brooklyn Creamery and owns the luxurious
InterContinental hotel at Marine Drive.
A Special Family Occasion
Recently, the Ghai family made headlines when Ravi’s granddaughter, Saaniya
Chandhok, got engaged to Arjun Tendulkar, son of cricket legend Sachin
Tendulkar. The engagement was a private celebration attended by close friends
and family members from both sides.
Education and Early Career
Ravi Ghai studied at Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration, one
of the most prestigious institutions in the world for hospitality. In 1967, he
returned to Mumbai to take over the family business from his father, Iqbal
Krishan (IK) Ghai, and began shaping the Graviss Group’s future.

Building Iconic Brands
Over the years, Ravi introduced popular ventures like Kwality Ice Cream and the
Natraj Hotel, which is now known as the InterContinental Hotel. His vision also
brought the Baskin-Robbins franchise to the SAARC region, expanding the group’s
reach.
Leadership Roles Today
Currently, Ravi serves as the Non-Executive Chairman of Graviss Hospitality
Ltd. He also holds several directorships, including at Kwality Read Estates Pvt
Ltd and Perfect Livestock LLP. His name is highly respected in India’s
hospitality and food industry.
A Family Dispute Emerges
Despite his success, Ravi’s personal life has faced challenges. According to
reports, he filed a complaint accusing his son, Gaurav Ghai, of forgery and
taking control of the company without his consent while he was undergoing
cancer treatment.
Allegations of Misuse of Signature
Ravi claimed that a supplementary Family Settlement Agreement was fraudulently
executed using his forged signature. He said he was the sole owner of the
Graviss Group before a business restructuring in 2001 and that documents were
signed under misleading circumstances due to his ill health.
Loss of Control and Allowance
After returning from medical treatment abroad, Ravi noticed changes. His son
and daughter-in-law would bring him papers to sign, which he did without
suspicion. By January 2025, his monthly allowance of ₹12.5 lakh stopped, and by
April, he learned his son had declared himself chairman of the company.
Legal Standpoint
Although the accusations are serious, police have not registered an FIR, citing
it as a family matter more suitable for arbitration than criminal action. The
case remains unsettled, adding tension to the family’s long-standing legacy.
The Ghai Family’s Wealth
The Graviss Group remains a major player in India’s hospitality sector. Its
parent company, Graviss Food Solutions Pvt Ltd, reported revenue of ₹624 crore
in FY23–24, marking a 20% growth from the previous year. The family also owns
the InterContinental Hotel in Mumbai, part of a global chain valued at $18.43
billion in August 2025.
The Bride-to-Be: Saaniya Chandhok
Saaniya Chandhok is the daughter of Gaurav Ghai and the granddaughter of Ravi
Ghai. Her family owns and operates The Brooklyn Creamery, Baskin Robbins India
franchise, and the InterContinental hotel in Mumbai, giving her a strong
business heritage.
The Groom: Arjun Tendulkar
Arjun Tendulkar, 25, is a professional cricketer playing for Goa in domestic
cricket. He made a century on his Ranji Trophy debut, mirroring an achievement
of his father. He also plays for Mumbai Indians in the IPL and took his first
wicket in 2023 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
A Union of Legacies
The engagement was intimate, with no public celebrations. It represents not
just a personal milestone for the Tendulkar and Ghai families, but also the
merging of two influential legacies—one from the world of cricket and the other
from the sphere of business and hospitality.
