Journey of Sethuraman T A :
Sethuraman T A’s journey into the world of education began
not with a business goal, but with a deeply personal mission. As a young
student at PSG College of Technology, where he pursued a Master’s in
Theoretical Computer Science, he spent much of his time volunteering at
orphanages and teaching underprivileged children. His early experiences in
community service laid the foundation for a career driven by purpose and
empathy.
A Leap from Corporate Comfort
After completing his studies, Sethuraman began his
professional career at Deloitte US-India as a Business Technology Analyst. But
the corporate world didn’t fulfill him. He realized he wanted to work where he
could make a difference. He left his job after a year to explore the roots of
educational inequality in India, determined to understand the system from the
ground up.
Learning from the Grassroots
He joined the Teach For India fellowship and started
teaching in a government school in Chennai. For two years, he taught a class of
75 students, not only focusing on academics but also on developing their values
and mindsets. Through his work, he influenced hundreds—students, teachers,
parents, and school leaders—by adapting a leadership-driven teaching model.
This gave him a ground-level view of the gaps and opportunities in India’s
education system.
From Classrooms to Systems Thinking
Post fellowship, Sethuraman took up roles as a curriculum
developer and school transformation associate. He worked with various
education-based organizations to dive deeper into how schools function and what
learners truly need. These experiences gave him a better understanding of the
broader education ecosystem and its many moving parts.
Exploring Government Systems
Sethuraman also interned with the Directorate of School
Education in Kashmir. There, he helped design a monitoring and evaluation tool
for government schools, aimed at improving how these schools track progress and
learning outcomes. This gave him first-hand exposure to policymaking and
large-scale implementation challenges in education.
An Inspiring Journey Across India
To gain insights into social entrepreneurship, Sethuraman
joined the Jagriti Yatra—a 15-day train journey across India that brings
together changemakers and aspiring entrepreneurs. The journey helped him
understand how social enterprises work and how individuals can drive impact
through innovation and collaboration.
The Birth of Jungroo Learning
In 2017, Sethuraman co-founded Jungroo Learning with Cibe
Hariharan, an ex-Amazon employee. Their goal was clear: use technology to meet
the unique learning needs of every individual student. Jungroo Learning was
built as an AI-powered adaptive learning platform, designed to help educators
create personalized learning paths and understand students at a micro level.
Smart Learning through AI
Jungroo’s platform uses artificial intelligence—specifically
reinforcement learning—to continuously adapt to a learner’s progress. It builds
custom knowledge graphs, diagnoses students’ strengths and gaps, and helps
teachers group students based on their mastery of different concepts. It also
generates personalized teaching plans, enabling smarter and more targeted
instruction.
