Biography of Manan Khurma:
Early Days of a Math Lover
Manan Khurma's journey with math began in his school years at Delhi Public
School, Vasant Kunj, and continued at the prestigious Indian Institute of
Technology (IIT) Delhi, where he studied Electronics and Communication
Engineering from 2003 to 2007. Even during his student days, Manan had a strong
connection with mathematics and was already thinking about how it could be
taught better. This early academic foundation sowed the seeds for a lifelong
mission — to change the way math is taught and learned.
First Entrepreneurial Steps – Locus Education
Right after graduating, Manan founded his first venture, Locus Education, a JEE
test-prep company. He was deeply involved in teaching mathematics and designing
learning programs. Over the next few years, he trained more than 10,000
students across multiple centers in India. These years taught him not just
about teaching math, but also the challenges of scaling a traditional
educational business. This experience shaped his thinking for what would come
next.
The Transition Years
After exiting Locus Education in 2011, Manan spent two years working
independently. He helped schools improve their math teaching systems, created
content that was eventually published, and even collaborated with government
bodies to improve math learning outcomes. During this period, he never stopped
teaching and stayed close to students, which helped him refine his
understanding of what truly works in math education.
A New Beginning – Birth of Cuemath
In December 2013, Manan officially launched Cuemath, a bold new venture aimed
at transforming how children experience math. The name Cuemath itself reflected
his philosophy — giving students the right "cues" to unlock their
math potential. He chose to launch the company on December 22, which is India’s
National Mathematics Day, to symbolize the purpose behind the brand. Cuemath
wasn’t just another ed-tech company; it was a mission to make every child
“MathFit™.”

Going Solo – Building from Scratch
In the early days of Cuemath, Manan worked alone, putting in 14 to 16 hours a
day developing a math curriculum from scratch. He realized that teaching young
students was different from teaching older ones. His first few attempts failed
— the material was too abstract and not suitable for younger kids. But he
didn’t give up. Over nearly a year and a half, he kept refining the curriculum
until it was effective and engaging.
Shaping the Cuemath Vision
As Cuemath began to grow, Manan focused on building a learning system that
moved away from rote learning and shortcuts. He wanted students to understand
the “why” behind math — to think deeply and logically. The Cuemath approach
emphasized conceptual understanding, logical reasoning, and problem-solving. It
was designed to help students develop a healthy and confident relationship with
math, even if they initially feared it.
Scaling the Mission Globally
With its unique approach and effective teaching model, Cuemath rapidly scaled.
By 2022, the platform had 4,000+ certified tutors and impacted over 200,000
students across more than 80 countries. Cuemath wasn’t just an Indian success
story anymore — it had become a global math learning platform. That year, the
company also raised $57 million in a Series C1 funding round, adding to the
total $120 million raised from investors like Alpha Wave Global, CapitalG
(Google Capital), Sequoia, and others.
The Cuemath Method – Neuroscience Meets Math
What sets Cuemath apart is its use of neuroscience to create "productive
struggle" moments. These are moments when students are pushed slightly
beyond their comfort zone — a zone where the brain grows the most. This
approach encourages curiosity, resilience, and independent problem-solving.
Manan firmly believes that every child can master math — it’s just about being
taught the right way.
The Bigger Picture – MathFit for the AI Age
Manan’s vision for Cuemath is not just about helping kids pass exams. It’s
about preparing them for the future. In an age where AI will handle much of the
routine cognitive work, those who are “MathFit™” — clear thinkers, logical
problem-solvers — will lead the way. He believes that math isn't just a
subject; it’s a tool for life. When children become strong at math, they don't
just succeed in academics — they learn to think independently and shape the
world around them.
A Lifelong Teacher, Always Learning
Despite leading a company that serves students across the globe, Manan still
teaches regularly. His passion for math and education remains unchanged. What
started as a personal mission has become a global movement. Cuemath continues
to expand, guided by a single goal: to make every child in the world MathFit™,
and in doing so, unlock their potential to lead, create, and solve the toughest
problems of tomorrow.
